Furniture retailer Nick Scali has been recognised for its rapid digital supply chain transformation, developed in response to supply chain disruptions in late 2024. The company, together with Explorate, received the Big Data, IT & Business Intelligence Award at the 2025 Australian Supply Chain and Logistics (ASCL) Awards held at Melbourne Town Hall on Friday night.
The transformation began when a freight forwarder collapse in late 2024 left more than 300 containers stranded across major Australian ports. Instead of allowing the disruption to impact operations, Nick Scali saw an opportunity to strengthen long-term resilience and improve visibility and control across its international shipping network. Working with our team at Explorate, the Nick Scali team implemented a digital solution that enhanced visibility, control and collaboration across its global operations while maintaining day-to-day performance.
The project introduced a fully integrated, data-driven supply chain model that connected systems and teams through automation and real-time intelligence. Within months, measurable improvements were delivered; streamlining supply chain administration, improving coordination with shipping lines and increasing control and cost efficiency across the end-to-end supply chain.
“I am very proud of the work that has been completed between the Nick Scali and Explorate teams to develop and implement this important capability for our business,” said Angus McDonald, Chief Operating Officer at Nick Scali. “This provides us with a big step forward in the quality of information, visibility and control over our international shipping arrangements, which are essential for delivering our customer experience across Australia, New Zealand and the UK.”
For our team at Explorate, this project is a clear example of how technology and collaboration can help Australian businesses build more connected, confident and high-performing supply chains.

Conor Hagan, Co-CEO and Co-Founder of Explorate, said: “It’s been a fantastic journey working alongside the team at Nick Scali to bring this project to life. Collaborating with such an iconic Australian brand to transform their supply chain into something not only industry-leading but capable of supporting innovative thinking for years to come has been a privilege.”
This achievement marks our second consecutive ASCL win in the Big Data, IT & Business Intelligence category, following recognition last year for our work with the Sussan Group.
